Angela Hartnett
Angela Hartnett has become one of the most high profile women in the restaurant world. In October 2002, she launched ‘M E N U’ and ‘The Grill Room’ at The Connaught Hotel in London, interrupting a century of male lineage in one of London's restaurant institutions. Cielo by Angela Hartnett combines the classicism long enjoyed by Connaught diners with a modern European influence. Since taking up the position at The Connaught, Angela has gone from strength to strength and in 2004 won her first Michelin star.
Angela has now won a new legion of new fans via British television; appearing alongside her mentor Gordon Ramsay in ITV's highly successful series Hell's Kitchen. In early 2006, Angela was honored to be the only female chosen to appear in The Great British Menu on BBC2 alongside renowned chefs including Marcus Wareing and Michael Caines. The countries best chefs competed to cook for Her Majesty the Queens 80th Birthday celebration. In 2007, Angela will co host the BBC show Kitchen Criminals a nationwide crash cookery course for the budding home chef.
During her childhood, Angela's Italian grandmother and mother instilled in her an appreciation and love of good food. It is this influence that is apparent in Angela’s menus and which she describes in her first book published earlier this year in May 2007 ‘Angela Hartnett’s Cucina, Three Generations of Italian Family Cooking.’
In the 2006 New Years Honors List Angela was presented with an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of her contribution to the hospitality industry.
