About the Scholar
I am delighted to introduce you to The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award 2008, in partnership with Gordon's Gin. The continued association with Gordon’s Gin allows us to build on the successes of the previous seven years and ensure that The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award 2008 is the biggest and best competition around for young cooks.
As ever I am excited as we start the search for our Scholar and look forward to the huge array of talent that inevitably presents itself and demonstrates to me that the future of the industry is in safe hands. Year on year the quantity and quality of entrants increases dramatically making the jobs of our industry leading judges even more difficult.
The Gordon Ramsay College Scholar is an event that never ceases to amaze me with these very young and mostly inexperienced cooks working with fantastic ingredients to create top quality dishes; on several occasions The College Scholar has more than given the more experienced chefs a run for their money.
For the third year The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award is taking place at The BBC Good Food Show at The NEC Birmingham. Starting with The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award on Wednesday, we will be in Birmingham for five days culminating in The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award Winner 2008 cooking live on stage with me on Sunday 30th November 2008 to an audience of thousands.
The main event, The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award takes place on Saturday 29th November and will as ever be judged by some of the most talented chefs in the business including my right hand man, Mark Askew and Angela Hartnett.
But of course it’s not all about competition but also quality and education. This is why 120,000 foodies flock to The BBC Good Food Show every year. As such we will be entertaining in many more ways including Gordon’s Gin tastings, demonstrations from world class chefs, question and answer sessions and much more.
This year’s prizes are as impressive as ever with the winner taking away a brand new car, £5000 cash, a set of Wüsthof knives, signature Bragard jacket, commemorative trophy and perhaps most significantly a three city stage at my signature restaurants in London, Paris and New York.
As ever, The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award would not be the success that it has become without the support of those most important to the award – you the entrants. I am grateful to many colleges for their unstinting support in grooming the next generation of talent and encouraging them to enter the award. I am also grateful to so many already within the industry who see the benefit that an event like this can give a young cook in terms of confidence and contacts. Please don’t stop supporting us.
I very much look forward to another exciting year and to seeing you at The Gordon Ramsay Scholar Award 2008, later in the year. More information on The BBC Good Food Show and tickets for the event are available at www.bbcgoodfoodshow.com
