Mark Askew
Born in Yorkshire, Mark Askew spent his early catering years in the North before moving to London in 1989 and started at The Savoy Grill as a Commis Chef under Anton Edelmann. Between 1989 and 1991 Mark worked with Pierre Koffman at Tante Claire; Michel Bourdin at The Connaught and Nico Ladenis at Nico's before joining Gordon Ramsay in the kitchen at Aubergine in 1992. After graduating from Chef de Partie to Sous Chef Mark took Gordon's advice and spent two years working in France at Maison de Bricourt and the remote Michel Bras. Mark then returned to Aubergine as Head Chef and was at Gordon's side in 1998 as Restaurant Gordon Ramsay opened which won two Michelin stars within just three years of opening. On 19th January 2001 Restaurant Gordon Ramsay gained its third Michelin star in the Great Britain & Ireland Red Guide. Since 2001 Mark has overseen Gordon’s restaurants as the Executive Head Chef of Gordon Ramsay Holdings and during 2003, for the second year running, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road was named amongst the five best restaurants in the world by a poll run by Restaurant Magazine.
