INTENSO ROSSO

TASTING NOTE

The wine has a bright, intense ruby red colour. On the nose it shows aromas of fresh red fruit and bright black fruit like blueberry and blackberry along with a touch of flint. On the palate it is very textural with depth and juiciness, intense and approachable tannins. The finish is soft and succulent.

VINEYARD

A unique cross-regional blend from the rugged coastal region of Abruzzo, famed for its reliability to produce consistent and good quality wines, with Tuscan Sangiovese bringing freshness and depth to the blend. The average vine age is 20 years. The fruit was picked using a combination of machines and hand-picking. The vineyards are mostly planted on limestone soils.

WINEMAKING

The fruit was destemmed and gently pressed prior to a 48 hour cold soak at 12°C to extract soft tannins and primary, bright flavours. Fermentation was at 25°C and the cap was continuously pumped over to avoid over extraction. 20% of the wine spent 9-12 months in 5-year-old large oak casks and the remaining wine was aged in a mixture of concrete and stainless steel tanks.

VINTAGE

The 2021 vintage started with a wet mild winter and a quite cold early spring. Late-April and May were characterized by low temperatures and a dry climate. During summer temperatures were above average with low rainfall, except for the end of July. A careful daily work of the soil reduced the water stress in the vineyards and allowed an excellent phenolic maturation of perfectly healthy grapes. Harvest started in the second week of September.
